The Village of Anna saw small improvements in 2009 with a caution on spending.
Committees were active in updating policies on Park Rules and Shelter Reservations, the Snow Removal Policy, and a review of the Comprehensive Water Policy. Additional Ordinances were passed to regulate placement and design of wind turbines and to prohibit free-standing furnaces.
Village streets were maintained with resurfacing of Linkensmith, Lacy, East North Street, Cherry Lane, and Apple Street done by Freisthler paving for $58,176. One block of South Third Street was reconstructed by Sturm Construction for $101,796 with help from a grant through the Ohio Public Works Comm.
The brownfield cleanup of the Ringle property was finally completed after a six month delay. The Village was fortunate that grants provided the additional funding of $66,997 that was needed for removal and treatment of the contaminated soil.
A grant was obtained of $22,500 to assist in the estimate of $32,800 to develop a new ball field in the park with the work to be completed by Shinn Brothers, Inc. Work has started and will be completed in early 2010.
Residents were pleased to see the arrival of NKTelco, Inc giving them an additional option in phone, cable, and internet service.
Employees attended training and acquired additional licensing with Brad Duncum receiving Class I Wastewater treatment and Pesticide Spraying licenses, and Tyler Shuster receiving Class II Wastewater treatment and and Pesticide Spraying licenses.
In cooperation with the school, the Village has completed a Safe Routes to School Plan to encourage walking or biking to school through education and upgrades to transportation routes.
The Village Park was again host to many activities including Movies in the Park and the Ryan Dentinger Memorial Asthma walk.
Special honors went to Lindsay Platfoot, a 2008-2009 FCCLA National Officer; Gene and Donna Ehemann of 108 N Pike St, Anna Village Pride Award; Dave Zimmerman owner of 108 N Pike St, Anna Village Pride Award; Ron Dunn, Village Service Recognition of 20 years; and Jim Nolte, Village Service Recognition of 8 years.
For 2010, Anna will again aggressively pursue grants for further street reconstruction. Other plans include completion of the new park ball field, security cameras for the park, extension of village utilities under I-75, and plans to make a small park of the former Ringle property.
