2007 saw the Village of Anna re-open its historic Village Hall with municipal offices relocated from their temporary space in the Police Station. The Village Hall was completely redone to house Council Chambers and Administrative offices. Employees were able to move into the new spaces in January. An open house was held in February so residents could have an opportunity to tour.
The Village Hall has since been used for a flu-shot clinic and also for a new forum called The Village Voice. The Village had Dustin Homan, State FFA President, and LuAnn Albers of the Health Department give presentations to citizens.
The Village launched a new website which details policies, Ordinances, and upcoming events. It has numerous links to businesses and other government sites to assist residents and other interested persons with questions they may have regarding the village. The site is located at villageofannaoh.com.
The Council had village ordinances codified through American Legal Publishing. This process reviewed Ordinances, organized, and referenced them and compiled them into book format.
The Village was fortunate to have an opportunity to purchase 5 acres of ground that adjoins the park. This area will allow for expansion of the soccer program and a ball diamond. The area is located within short walking distance of the High School and will allow for more school activities to occur at the park.
The park saw numerous other enhancements with a playhouse erected, a new backstop, and additions to both the Children’s Garden and the Butterfly Garden.
The park continues to host many activities. Three concerts, a movie night, a football tailgate party, and children’s summer camp were all held there.
The Village also worked at street maintenance. Anna and Botkins jointly took bids for paving projects. Freistuhler Paving was awarded its bid of $62,763 for Anna’s streets including North Street and Walnut Street. A project to install a new sewer line on Main Street was awarded to Tom’s Construction Inc. for $353,123. The sewer project was engineered by Choice One Engineering and will be partially funded by an Issue II grant of $250.943. The work is to occur in early 2008 in order to be completed before the Main Street Beautification project is to start.
The Village continues to seek funding to tear down an old chrome-plating facility on Young Street. We were turned down initially for the $120,000 grant but have re-applied and hope to make the area a small neighborhood park.
The Village renewed a contract with Allied Waste of Celina to collect trash. Options include the current bag system or an unlimited pickup with payment made directly by the resident to Allied Waste.
The Village ends the year with 4 Police Officers including Chief Shepherd, Scott Boettiger, Mark Brunson, and Maurice Wright.
Kathie Eshleman has retired form her position as Clerk-Treasurer and now will be serving as Council Member. Diane Homan is our new Fiscal Officer and assumes those duties. Jenny Maurer, our new Utilities Clerk, will assist her.
We would like to thank outgoing Council Member, Dawn Pulfer, for her years of service to the Village.
Lastly, we are pleased to welcome new businesses to town, Corey’s Barber Shop and DMAW Properties, LLC.
We look forward to 2008.
